Chat Conference
Chat Conference is a text-only form of communication, where no audio is present. Participants can view a real-time chat presentation on their computer. Conference Call University will be revolutionizing the Teleseminar industry with plans to conduct Chat Conferences on the topic of Deaf Success in the near future. Podcast
Live Teleseminar sessions can be recorded and provided for download for listening via MP3, or other related formats. The common term for this is ‘’podcast’’. While students do not get to participate live in the educational session, they do have the advantage of listening to content when and where they want.
Streaming Audio
An alternative method of delivering the audio portion of a Teleseminar or Webinar, a Webstream does not require the participant to use the telephone to hear the presenter. Generally, the audio portion is delivered via the participants computer using any number of available software applications.
Teleclass
A Teleclass is similar to a Teleseminar, but usually involves a smaller number of participants, and is often ‘’open line,’’ so that everyone can hear everyone else. This model is good for a high level of interaction between the presenter and the participants.
Teleconferencing
This mode of learning involves only audio, through the telephone. Generally used for small groups, with open lines for all parties to allow group discussion. Often used in corporate environments for meetings when all parties are not physically present.
Teleseminar / Tele-Seminar
This mode of learning involves only audio. Generally, the audience dials into a \’\’bridge line\’\’ which connects hundreds, or even thousands of people onto one big conference call. There is generally one presenter than can be heard, and occasionally guest speakers are also heard. However, the audience is usually ‘’muted out’’ so that the background noise of hundreds of people cannot be heard!
Video Conferencing
With Video Conferencing, the audience generally sees the actual presenter on the screen. In smaller groups, the video might be two-way, so the presenter can also see the audience. The benefit to Video Conferencing is that you can actually see the presenter as they are speaking. However, the drawback is that video quality is often poor, and the equipment to properly conduct a video conference can be cost prohibitive.
Webinar
A webinar generally utilizes audio AND visual modes of communication. The audio is delivered either via telephone, or via Webstream. The video portion is delivered via a computer. Generally, a Webinar allows the presenter to display a variety of content to the audience, including Power Point presentations, real-time desktop sharing, or online collaboration. A Webinar generally also contains an element of participation from the audiences, either through interactive questions and answers, or surveys, etc.
